As preparations begin for the upcoming Great British Spring Clean, local group RCLCUC is encouraging more individuals to sign up to their regular litter picks.

The Ross Community Litter Clean Up Crew is a group of dedicated volunteers who help organise litter picks around the Ross area.

Originally formed in 2018, the group has grown significantly in the years since and now attracts many different groups of volunteers, and are hoping to encourage more individuals to join them and do their bit to help their cause ahead of the Great British Spring Clean next month.

The Great British Spring Clean is a campaign launched by the independent charity Keep Britain Tidy. This year’s event is taking place from March 20th to April 13th, and with last year seeing over 560,000 volunteers join forces at over 17,000 events, there is hope that even more people will volunteer their time this year.

The RCLCUC have arranged a number of litter picks in the build-up to the event, with equipment provided and everyone welcome and encouraged to take part.

Many individuals within the Ross-on-Wye community have stepped in to help the RCLCUC with their efforts including local photographer Caz Holbrook and her ten-year-old son Finn.

Caz said: “As a photographer I hate seeing nice areas like Ross tainted by litter, so I feel it is important that as a resident I do my bit to help keep the area as clean and tidy as possible to not only attract people to visit but also encourage them to come back.

“Recently me and my son have been joined by his friends Felix and Reueben on the litter pick-ups on our street. The kids really enjoy it and my son in particular is getting very passionate about the issue which can only be a good thing.

“The Community Litter Clean Up Crew do such an amazing jobs and it is growing in popularity all the time which is brilliant. There is a real sense of community spirit about the whole project and, as I’ve found with my son, it is nice to do something so worthwhile with other people providing good company at the same time.”
