Ross Motor Club duo, Eric Davis and Russell Joseph, were crowned the 2011 HRCR Mini Cup Champions after a somewhat eventful Cambrian Historic Rally on Saturday, but fifth Mini home was enough to secure the crown.

Davis, who has rallied minis for nearly 30 years, was in a two way battle with rival Clive King for the title. 45 miles of tough competition in the forests of Penmachno, Clocaenog and the famous tarmac of the Great Orme, lay in wait for the 130 crews.

But when King crashed heavily on stage 2, Davis only had to finish to wrap up the title. Easier said than done.

Steering problems on stage 2 were soon sorted, but stages 5 and 6 were so rough it caused a misfire and the wipers failed. With just two tarmac stages remaining on the famous Great Orme, the car started to overheat. However, they survived to finish 74th overall and fifth in class to seal the crown after a superb year.

In the main event Craig Drew teamed up again with James Grint in the Lancer Evo 9, hoping to put their first stage accident on the Trackrod behind them. They got off to a bad start with a high speed spin on the opening test cost 40 seconds with the car refusing to start. Another spin on stage 2 cost more time. Then a puncture a mile from the end of stage 5 and bent suspension on the next stage compounded a miserable day finally arriving back at the Llandudno finish 16th overall/8th Group N.

Newly crowned Historic Gravel Cup champion Graham Waite teamed up with Mike Reynolds in Mike's historic- spec Datsun 240Z, these two had a steady run in a car that dominated International rallies in the early 70s to finish 52nd/4th in class.

Will Rogers travelled to Perth to team up with Gary McLoed in the RP Joinery Honda Civic for the Rally Scotland National Rally running behind the IRC series runners.

Three stages took place on Saturday evening in darkness with fog being a major issue.

On Sunday a further seven tests took place and all was well going into last gravel test. The duo were lying 12th and overall second in class, when just three miles from the end of the stage, a bottom ball joint broke bringing to an end a promising drive.
