Ross Cricket Club hosted the civic reception for the Ross/Betzdorf Twinning Association on Saturday, May 30th, and a good number of visitors stayed after lunch to watch a part of the first innings play in the First XI match against Old Elizabethans Third XI.

It was a glorious, hot, sunny day and the setting at The Park was idyllic. Ross won the toss and chose to bat.

Opener Jeremy North (43) and No 3 Andrew Bevan (25) put on 34 for the second wicket and No 4 James Tiffen (44) continued to keep the score board ticking over.

At 111 for 4, with 21 overs to go, the Ross middle order were looking to up the rate and set a big total but they stuttered and lost three wickets to run-outs.

Bill Harling bowled 6.1 overs 2 maidens 3 for 9, to clean up the tail, with the total looking 40 runs shy at 166 all out.

In reply Old Elizabethans got off to the worst possible start, losing their opener in the first over. Andrew Bevan bowled 6 maidens in his first 8 overs and returned figures of (17-6-27-5).

Opening partner Iain Howie (7-2-24-1) removed the OEs skipper in his fifth over. Gabriel Warwick (11.4-3-21-4) came on as first change and wickets fell at regular intervals with Jeremy North taking five catches at the wicket.

The away side were bowled out for 82 with the OEs top scorer being Alan Taylor (27).
