THE outside space at the Ross-on-Wye Library is to get a makeover after years of neglect.
The influx of pigeons has led to the area to the side of the library falling into disuse.
But now the Friends of Ross Library are pleased to announce that the garden is going to be cleaned up and updated and make it a useful outside space once again.
Working together with the library staff and buildings services at Herefordshire Council, the Friends want to create a beautiful and engaging space for the entire community to use.
Plans have been drawn up which include a large awning, which will provide space for special events being held at the library, a quiet outdoor space to read a book or work on a tablet in the summer, and a stimulating sensory place for storytelling.
In addition, there will be sensory and bee friendly flower beds and troughs plus water saving butts.
The Friends of Ross Library are in the process of applying for grants and by using a generous gift from its reserves, hope to have the Garden renewed so that it can be used over the summer months.
Plans will be available to view at the Friends of Ross Library’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting on June 23 at 6.30pm.
The Friends of Ross Library is a volunteer support group of people who care about Ross Library and the things it has to offer.
The association believes that the library is a vital community facility for the town and the surrounding countryside.
It has a wide and varied choice of books, audiobooks, e-books and films to borrow and computers for visitor’s use.
The Friends’ aim is to assist the library by raising funds for special projects and volunteering their time for special events.
