During the Lions Club’s recent handover lunch, President Jenny Symington presented Lion Mel Middlecote with an award marking his 45 years service with the club.

Lion Mel was one of the earliest members of the club, which was chartered in 1971. During this time he has served as past President, and has held many other officer roles. Mel was awarded life membership for his knowledge, experience, dedication and service, which continues to be relied upon by all the members within the club.

Lion Mel echoes the thoughts of many when he said: “I didn’t join the Lions to be given awards, but to serve the community.” However, Lion President Jenny said: “This occasion deserves to be celebrated, and the club is proud of the selfless way Mel has maintained his enjoyment of the club membership and the tradition of service.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
