In what can only be described as one of the most enjoyable weekends for a while Ross XI maintained the status quo with a 3 – 0 victory over Lansdown A.
Ross have now played 280 minutes of league hockey without conceding a goal. Lansdown did come close on a couple of occasions but they found Ross Keeper Andrew Ridgway in sublime form. When they did manage to get around Ridgway in the Ross goal they found Luke Ward on the online who deflected the reverse stick effort around the post whilst diving in midair!
Ross dominated the game for the first ten minutes. Richard Hitchiner was causing havoc cutting into the Lansdown "D" from right midfield. Tom Walton and Jamie Caulfield were controlling the game in the midfield, Caulfield, in particular, was constantly slipping beautiful balls through the Lansdown defence for the Ross strikers, Adrian Williams and Phil Evans to run on to.
With all this pressure it wasn't long before Ross took the lead. It was Adrian Williams who got the goal, smashing in his 17th of the season. This sparked a response from Lansdown A and they started forcing themselves back into the game for a short spell forcing several short corners.
As the half went on the game became increasingly scrappy and neither side was able to retain possession for long periods.
Ross did create several good opportunities to extend their lead but a combination of woeful finishing, good saves by the Landsdown Keeper and a disgusting case of selfishness, Sam Warner, Adrian Williams and Phil Evans were unable to extend Ross's advantage going to into half time.
After an inspiring half time team talk Ross came out of the blocks firing. From the restart they found themselves 2 – 0 up with Adrian Williams slotting the ball home after rounding the Lansdown keeper for his 18th goal of the season.
This isn't a bad games to goal ratio and the team are hopeful that he can improve on his shots to goals ratio in the coming weeks.
Ross then had various opportunities to increase their lead but Kristian Franklin and Richard Hitchiner's shots just went to the wrong side of the post.
It was left to Jamie Caulfield to add the third goal for Ross and wrap up the victory.
The South Herefordshire Motorcarvans Man of the Match was awarded to Thomas Walton for his fantastic performance in the middle for Ross. He lead the team from the front and set the example to follow like all good captains do.
