A nurse from Ross-on-Wye has won an Outstanding Mentor award. Courtney Harris, who is 23 and works at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, was presented with the honour at the University of Worcester’s 10th annual Health and Social Care Mentor Awards.
She said: “I am extremely honoured to have received this award. I am sure that everyone else who was nominated was as capable – if not more so – of winning it, so I am over the moon to have been chosen.
“As a fairly new fresh faced nurse, qualifying two years ago, I’m eager to learn and face new challenges,” she added. “This is an exciting career where no two days are the same.”
Each year, the University of Worcester Health and Social Care Mentor Awards celebrate the outstanding contribution that professionals from the health and social care sector make. Those who are honoured with an award have made an invaluable contribution in helping to train the next generation of practitioners.
Courtney said: “Mentors are at the heart of nurse education, offering valuable support and guidance, and I believe that setting a good example will inspire student nurses to be the best they can be- and after all, they are the future.”
29 individual awards were presented to nurses, midwives, social workers, paramedics, and various other professions within the sector.
Elizabeth Davies-Ward, Head of the School of Allied Health and Community at Worcester, said: “Everyone we have honoured with these awards has their own job to think about, and yet they have taken the time and care not only to provide placements and mentoring opportunities for the next generation, but to provide truly excellent placements backed up with compassion.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
