Local author, actor and director, Brian Jackson, is awaiting the publication of his latest novel, Sleepers Awake.
Based on real events which Brian became aware of years apart, he has woven a complex tale stretching across several decades, and with much of the action taking part in Rhodesia.
The main character, Michael, is haunted by remorse after the loss of his young son while he is living and working in England. A long time later, after his return to Rhodesia, he falls in love with a married woman, and strangely her husband shares the unusual name of his son, Joss.
One night in the Congolese province, Michael fails to intervene in an attack on his lover, Jan, and her husband. Eventually he goes in search of them and discovers Jan, horribly mutilated and dead. Joss is bleeding to death and, unable to help him, Michael makes the decision to shoot him.
Although exonerated by the authorities Michael cannot come to terms with his action and he is drawn into a confrontation with his past.
A love story, set in Africa when it was still part of the British Empire, Sleepers Awake will be available through Amazon. The cover has been designed by Ross artist, Sam Callan.
