One of the three finalists in the BBC Food & Farming Awards in the Best Food Market category is the Dean Forest Food Hub. Caenwood Bed and Breakfast, run by Yolande Watson and Andrew De La Haye in Howle Hill, Ross-on-Wye, supplies bio-dynamically grown, organic vegetables to the Forest of Dean Food Hub.
Dean Forest Food Hub is a not-for-profit social enterprise that aims to provide information to everyone in the Forest of Dean community about local agricultural projects, whilst ensuring everyone can access affordable, good quality local food that is fair for the producer as well.
All the work involved in running the Hub is done by volunteers, from deciding what to offer from the select few wholesalers, to packing boxes on Friday mornings, keeping the ordering system working, the accounts, book-keeping, talking to producers and the people who run pick-up points, picking up from producers and delivering to pick-up points, updating the website and the facebook page.
Winners will be announced at the BBC Food & Farming Awards ceremony in Bristol on Thursday, April 28th.
