Ross Garden Store has been very busy over the Bank Holiday weekend, once again planting up some of the town’s beds and borders.

This year they have used Zonal Geraniums (Pelargoniums) as they are best suited to hot sunny conditions and need less water than other types of bedding plants. The variety used is “Pac” which comes highly recommended from their growers and is available in a wide range of bold colours. In a short while these plants will fill out to three times their size and the colour should last well into September. Ross Garden Store has also given plants to the Ross Lions and the Royal British Legion plus U.3.A. (University of the Third Age Movement for retired and semi retired people) who are sponsoring other beds around town.

In addition they have helped rejuvenate Bridstow School Garden; by supplying labour and materials in order to encourage the next generation of gardeners, and hopefully customers!!

Working with Tim at the Community Garden, who planted the Market House Hanging Baskets, the Store recommended and sourced trailing Petunia Surfina due to the baskets being in semi shade for part of the day.

Tim and his team have also been instrumental in helping to clear the large raised beds at John Kyrle High School which were becoming unsafe. Mr Simeon Cole joined Tim and offered his time and his earthmoving equipment in order to level the site for further use by the school.

Ross Garden Store told the Ross Gazette “It’s amazing what a bit of colour can do to brighten the spirits. We received many wonderful comments from locals who saw us working on the beds over the weekend, who mentioned how great it was to see the town looking bright and colourful. We, and all those mentioned above, wish to thank Sarah (Ross-on-Wye Town Clerk) and Rachel (Deputy Town Clerk) for their drive and energy in helping to achieve the end goal in brightening up this wonderful town that we live in.”
