A ceremony to name a new bomb detection rig after a teenager who loved heavy haulage took place today, Thursday, June 13th.

Connor Sparrowhawk, who had epilepsy and drowned in a bath after suffering a seizure in Oxford in 2013, always wanted to run his own haulage company, and an online campaign aimed to persuade the Eddie Stobart haulage firm to name a truck in his memory.

This was not to be, but SafeLane Global, which is based at Phocle Green, Ross-on-Wye, stepped up to offer to name their new bomb detection rig after Connor.

Members of Connor’s family joined Paddy Smith, Senior Operations Manager for the UK division for a very special day, with the highlight being the unveiling of the sign, ‘ Connor Sparrowhawk Laughing Boy’ on the rig.

Connor’s brother Tom, was delighted to see the rig. He said: “It is really cool to know that this will be doing something really positive in Connor’s name.”

Connor’s mother, Dr Sara Ryan added: “Connor would have been fascinated by everything we have been shown, this would have been a dream come true for him.”
