Local councillors and Mayors from several market towns, including Ross-on-Wye, joined trustees and staff from Services for Independent Living (SIL) for an opportunity to find out more about what it really means to be working in adult social care.
The pre-Christmas event was hosted by Chairman of the Board, Mrs Angela Pendleton who was delighted to welcome Cllr Phil Edwards, Vice Chairman of Herefordshire Council, and other invited guests to meet the staff responsible for delivering support both in the home and also to those in Herefordshire who receive direct payments.
Mr Stephen Vickers, Herefordshire Council’s Director for Adults and Wellbeing, gave the key note speech about the future of adult social care in the county, and Mr Euan McPherson, SIL’s CEO, explained to guests how changes to working practice over recent years has made SIL the provider of choice for individual care in Herefordshire, and nominated in five categories - with two winners, in the 2018 Hereford Times Health & Social Care Awards. The event was a real eye-opener for many guests.
Euan McPherson said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome people to our offices, but we recognise it is not always possible for everyone to visit.
“We are therefore most willing to come and address any organisations or groups who would like to find out more about social care and the work we do.”
If you would like to speak to someone about a visit to your group, whether it would be possible and how to go about it, please contact the Head of Marketing and Development, Shelagh Callaghan, on 01568 616653, to discuss this more fully.
