Local photographer and mum, Emma Drabble is taking on the Pretty Muddy Race for Life 5K run in Cheltenham on Saturday, July 9th. She will be running alongside her daughter, Ella, to raise funds for cancer Research UK.
Ella and Emma decided to take part as they are not natural runners but they want to help make a cure for cancer a reality.
Emma told the Ross Gazette: “So many friends and family have been so badly affected by cancer. Ella in particular has already, in her 13 years, known quite a few people directly and indirectly who have had cancer affect their lives.
“Ella’s Great Grandpa died of bowel cancer, her Grandpa John has had cancer, and Ella’s best friend’s mum has just finished her final Chemotherapy.”
She added that it would be great if we can just help a cure happen a bit quicker.
Emma and Ella do not enjoy running and would never have picked it as a hobby but whenever they feel out of breath and have aching legs they think how uncomfortable it must be being treated for cancer. “That helps us get on with it.”
They have been training hard with one day running and one day off, their last training session is tonight, Thursday, July 7th.
Emma hopes that her participation will encourage others to give it a go. She said: “If I can do it anyone can, totally unfit, no time for exercise around work, I know all the reasons why not.”
She added that it really helps doing it with a family member, ‘as Ella and I can goad each other on.’
