Some of the residents at Goodrich Court, Ross-on-Wye, recently made very generous donations, totalling £2,950, during several charitable events. The money was given to Rosemary Rigby, President of Ross Action Committee, on Wednesday, March 29th.

The money was raised during a recent coffee morning, a lunch club, and a quiz night. The residents who made the generous contributions were as follows: Rosemary Smith, Margery Grey, Joan Bishop, Fred Eskriett, Rolan De-La-Haye, Elizabeth Keys, Jean Green, Pam Hassell, Julie Osbourne, Margaret Kirchmekr and Maureen Gilbert.

Rosemary Smith had the idea to raise the money for the Action Committee, and the residents will be taking part in regular fundraising events in aid of the Ross-on-Wye based charity.

Many of the residents use the Action Bus very regularly; some ride the bus to attend a weekly lunch club at the Conservative Club, some use it to go to the local supermarket, and others may make use of the bus when going on day trips.

Some of the residents told the Gazette that they think the Action Bus is absolutely necessary for many local people, especially as so many elderly residents struggle to get out by themselves.

For the residents who do not yet use the Action Bus, it is reassuring to know that it is there if they ever do need it.

When a group of residents met with Rosemary Rigby to present her with the donations, she was overwhelmed and delighted by their generosity.

She told the Gazette that during 51 years of fundraising, she had never been made speechless, until she was presented with the money raised by the Goodrich Court residents.

Miss Rigby added that she had been expecting a donation of around £60, or £80 if the coffee morning had been very successful, so the donation of £2,950 was an exciting surprise, and an unbelievable thrill.
