The Roaring Megs Community Choir was delighted and proud to donate £1,000 to Save the Children on Wednesday, June 29th, following a successful concert in Goodrich on May 28th.

The choir, whose musical director is George Banks-Martin, presented donations totalling exactly £1,000 to Will Brookes, Save the Children’s Community Volunteering Manager for Wales and West England. The cheque was presented by the Chairman of the choir Matthew Constance, and Professor Daniel and Mrs Patricia Jones, who kindly hosted the concert in their wonderful garden.

Will said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to accept this donation on behalf of Save the Children. This contribution will enable us to reach out to children and families who are suffering the effects of poverty, both in this country and around the world. I can’t thank the choir enough for their generosity, and I am proud to say these funds will make a genuine difference to the lives of many children.”

At the concert in May, audience members were invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the varied programme of song in the late spring sunshine. As it was such a warm and balmy evening the event was particularly well attended, with around 140 people enjoying the choir’s performance. The choir performed traditional songs such as folk songs, songs from the big shows as well as pop songs by Adele and classics like Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

We are delighted to have raised £1,000 for such a wonderful cause, and would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed so generously on the night.”

The Roaring Megs Community Choir was formed in Goodrich, Herefordshire in 2010. It is a friendly, fun loving, four part choir and has steadily grown in numbers each year. No auditions are required and it warmly welcomes new members. They meet every Monday at 8pm at Goodrich Village Hall. The funds raised by the choir will help fund Save the Children’s projects in the UK, such as Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play! - a grant programme designed to support children and families in the most desperate need, as well as other projects which help children and families in 120 countries around the world.
