A talented young student from Ross-on-Wye will be taking part in a nine-date tour of the UK with a young dance company from one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in Britain.

Nineteen-year-old Rebecca Murphy is a dance student at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and is a member of the school’s Encore Dance Company, which is made up of its sixth-form students.

They will be showcasing an exciting programme of dance featuring a variety of genres of dance including classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, commercial dance and more during their tour, which starts this week and visits theatres in Ipswich, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Brecon, Exeter, Bracknell and Sadler’s Wells in London. The tour will be visiting the Dance House at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on May 3rd and Theatr Brycheiniog - Brecon on May 4th. The tour finishes on May 24th.

Rebecca told the Ross Gazette: "Being a part of Encore Dance Company has been a fantastic opportunity to experience what life is like as a professional dancer and is a great way to prepare for the dance industry. So far we have performed in Tring, Ipswich and Leeds and I am really looking forward to returning back home to perform in Wales which is where my love of dance began. I previously attended Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls to study academically while also attending the A1 Dance Academy, a local dance school in Monmouthshire.

"After auditioning successfully at the age of 16, I am now in my graduate year of professional dance training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, a school with alumni such as Daisy Ridley, Jessica Brown-Findlay and Lily James.

"Our performance as Encore Dance Company in Brecon demonstrates a lot of versatility meaning there will be something for everyone, ranging from classical ballet to musical theatre."
