Five local businesses have banded together to form the Ross-on-Wye Tourism Association (RTA) to offer information for visitors and local people. The network is spread across the town centre and spreads out to the riverside.
However, the organisation is now looking for donations to continue its work to spread the news about the area. The RTA is currently working with members of the Association of Ross Traders on a new guidebook for Ross, which it hopes will be available before Christmas.
Donations to keep producing material and expand what is on offer would be most welcome, particularly from businesses that benefit from visitors to the town.
Bank details can be obtained by emailing the RTA at [email protected]
RTA Chairwoman Caroline Utting told the Ross Gazette: “Since the County Council pulled all funding for tourism, Ross has to rely on volunteers to plug the gap. Many business owners are only too happy to stock maps and leaflets and offer information as good customer service is important to them and they want to see the town prosper.”
The RTA relies on donations and some sales and has received grants from the Town Council and Town Team. It has used the money to print maps, trails and What’s On flyers, which are distributed regionally, and accommodation and camping folders. All are stocked at the five tourist information sites (TIS). Caroline added: “We have done as much as we can to take advantage of free or low cost platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and the internet to promote Ross and have had a lot of success. Search online for Visit Ross-on-Wye Tourism to find us and look for the logo.”
Ross-on-Wye Tourism Association is also a member of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association.
The RTA regularly get together to discuss plans and exchange information. The latest meeting took place at Angela Kent's café and B&B at Raglan House in Broad Street.
