A Ross-on-Wye Town Council Facebook Page will soon be set up, which will give local residents regular updates about the work being done in the area by local Councillors.

Councillors Hannah Lerego, Daniel Lister and Caroline Bennett have formed a working group to set the page up.

Cllr Lerego told the Gazette that the Council felt it was important to form a cross party group; she is a Conservative Councillor, Cllr Bennett is a Lib Dem and Cllr Lister is an Independent Councillor.

Cllr Lerego explained that she has planned events with Councillors Bennett and Lister in the past, such as when they organised the Christmas Fayre together. The three councillors get along and work together very well.

She added that the Council will use Facebook to put out information to local residents and publicise the work that they are doing in the town. She commented: "The council now realise that it is a really important way to get messages out."

However, the best way for members of the public to contact Councillors will not be through the Facebook page, but via their emails and telephone numbers, which are featured on the Town Council’s website.

The Town Council hope that by setting up a Facebook page, this will alleviate any confusion that some residents may have about the role the Town Councillors play in the community. Cllr Lerego told the Gazette that many people seem to be unsure about the difference between Herefordshire County Council and Ross Town Council, but by having the Facebook page, she hopes this will provide a clarification.

It is anticipated that the Facebook page will be up and running by the end of May.

The Ross Town Council website will also be updated to make the site more mobile-friendly.
