2018 brings an important anniversary for Ross-on-Wye. At the end of April, when the French coach arrives from Condé-sur-Noireau, many residents will start celebrating the 40th anniversary for Ross/Condé Twinning.

There are several events planned for the weekend including a dinner dance at the Chase Hotel and a drinks reception hosted by the Mayor, Nigel Gibbs. There will also be a commemorative tree planting in Dean Hill Park.

The Ross Twinning Association is buying two acers, one to be planted in Ross, one for Condé. The Ross committee have chosen Palmatum Bloodgood acers as the colour of the leaves will signify the ’ruby’ anniversary. The trees have been sourced locally from Peter Dowle of Howle Hill who will also give advice on the tree planting and care.

All through the twinning weekend – 27th-30th April – there will also be an exhibition celebrating the artistic links between Ross and Condé. The work of seven artists who live and work in Condé will be shown in the Ross Market House. Hosted by Made in Ross, the exhibition will feature a selection of work including oil paintings, mosaics, drawings and small sculptures. The exhibition is free and open daily from 10am to 4pm.

The Ross/Condé Twinning Association would be interested to hear from any former twinners in the Ross area who would like to be a part of this special anniversary weekend. This could include attending the dinner on the Saturday evening, which would be a great chance to meet up with old friends.
