Ross-on-Wye resident, Deb Kirby, is joining a select group of fundraisers on a trek in Oman in November, to raise funds for charity.

She will be joining Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford on the challenge of a lifetime. A second team will be headed up by vlogger and author Giovanna Fletcher.

This annual Fabulous Challenge which is supported by the Sun newspaper, raises money for breast cancer charity, CoppaFeel. Deb commented that she applied for the experience because her aunt has battled breast cancer and was lucky enough to come through it.

Deb told the Ross Gazette: “We have all been affected by loved ones suffering from this brutal disease which is why this is my way of trying to do something about it by championing this fantastic cause.”

During the 75km trek, the celebrity leaders will navigate their teams past old fishing villages, through canyons and along stunning coastlines, before setting up camp in the desert and sleeping under the stars. To take part in the trek participants have to be physically fit, Deb enjoys long bike rides and regularly attends the gym, and they have to raise a minimum of £2,775 for CoppaFeel.
