A 10-year-old boy, who lives near Ross-on-Wye, brought an uplifting retro style to the third annual Computer Science Fair in Monmouth.

Keen computer programmer, Alec Scales, from Hillersland, has built a working replica of a pub classic arcade machine, containing the much-loved games, Frogger and Asteroids.

John Kyrle High School pupil, Elic Wales, was also among more than a dozen budding exhibitors at the popular fair organised and hosted by Monmouth School for Boys.

Thirteen-year-old Frankie Brown, from Coleford, brought along his invention, which tested people’s reaction times and was supported by his seven-year-old cousin, Isaac Brown, a pupil at Coalway Infants School.

Ms Lyndsay Hope, Head of Computing at Monmouth School for Boys, said “The fair was another memorable occasion and combined all the computer science side of things with art, STEM subjects and humanities. The children were able to ask questions and get inspiration from other demonstrators which will, hopefully, spark them further on their own road to invention.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
