Madam, May we nominate the winner for the New Year's Honours List for Ross-on-Wye – the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Alton Street Surgery for outstanding services to the residents of Ross-on-Wye.

They listen, they care, they remember who you are, and nothing is too much trouble for them. It is even possible to either telephone or go online and make an appointment or home visit for the same day, even that morning is not out of the question. None of this 'two week's time, if you are lucky'.

My husband and I have both experienced this amazing service recently when ill with a chest infection virus. I telephoned about my husband's breathing problem and was told to get him to surgery immediately and a doctor would be waiting to see him! The following week my husband called on my behalf as I was very poorly and a doctor was at our door in less than an hour of phoning.

Who said the NHS was failing? We cannot thank you all enough and wish you all a wonderful New Year. The best decision we ever made five years ago was to stay put in Ross having been temporarily given accommodation at Bernard Hackett. Beautiful town and beautiful people.
