The Ross-on-Wye Chinese Brush Painting Group ran a special workshop recently, hosting guest artist, Peng Su, from China. Students were able to practice his traditional Chinese painting style, using quick abstract strokes, and a mix of dry and wet brush effects.
Sharing his love of nature, Peng led the students through painting pine trees, sparrows, lotus flowers, and strawberries. All students were encouraged to infuse the work with their own style and energy, or ‘qi’.
This was Peng Su’s first visit to Ross-on-Wye, and he found there was inspiration everywhere. He found sitting on a bench, overlooking the Thomas Blake Memorial Garden particularly inspiring, with birds singing and a sun setting. He wishes to thank everyone for their kindness, and hopes to return soon.
The Chinese Brush Painting group continues to meet monthly at The Chase Hotel, with all levels welcome.
