Bathed in warm sunshine, the autumn leaves on the trees at Prospect, and the view of the Rive Wye beyond, a stunning backdrop to the annual Service of Remembrance in Ross-on-Wye. Hundreds gathered on Saturday, November 10th to remember those who served and died in two World Wars and in conflicts since.

There was a huge turnout as people paid their respects and watched the Standard Bearers and the local uniformed organisations parade to The Prospect for the service.

After the Last Post was sounded, and the standards were lowered, the two minute silence was observed, which was then followed by the laying of wreaths by dignitaries, local organisations and members of the public.

The first wreath was laid by Reverend Preb Kay Garlick DL and she was followed by dozens of others.

Mr Paul Deneen OBE JP DL who had been invited by the Ross-on-Wye branch of the Royal British Legion said: “Huge thanks to the excellent work undertaken by both the Ross-on-Wye branch of The Royal British Legion (RBL) and the team at St Mary’s Church. The Remembrance Day was very well attended and supported by the local community at the Prospect and at the service in the church. My thanks to all those who volunteer in the community, as this does much to enrich and support the lives of others.” See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
