MADAM, Guess who placed the Ross Remembers poster in an hotel in Ypres – James Weatherhead. James and I went on a visit primarily so that I could pay my respects to a family member, who is buried at Lijssenthoek cemetery. Although I never met Sgt Alfred Frank Saunders I have come to know him through the many letters which he wrote to my grandmother and her children. I was able to put a small poppy posy on his grave and it was a very emotional moment for me. James also laid a poppy wreath at The Menin Gate during the Last Post ceremony on behalf of Ross British Legion as you can see from the photo. We decided however to ask our hotel if the Ross Remembers poster could be placed in their display as a more permanent memorial of those men from Ross who lost their lives. Mystery solved.
