Several Coffee Mornings were held on Friday, September 29th, from 9.30am onwards in Ross-on-Wye, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Those taking part included: Walford Primary School, Mandy Moo’s Cafe, Barclays Bank and Audrey’s Fish Bar.

A raffle was also held by the businesses on Cantilupe Crossroads, costing a two-pound donation, for a chance to win some great prizes.

The Macmillan coffee morning held at Bernard Hacket Court raised just over £425. It was generously supported by residents, neighbours and friends. Organisers thanked Morrisons and Red for their support.

Audrey’s Fish Bar had a fantastic event raising a grand total of £1,042.79, which is their highest total to date.

The “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. They ask people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone they raised £29.5 million, this year aiming to raise even more.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their ‘cuppa’ to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, they did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £165.5 million for Macmillan.

Macmillan provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. And because cancer affects more than just those facing it, they are there for friends and family too.

There are now 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer. By 2030, it will be 4 million people.
