Cheltenham Police took action against a Ross-on-Wye teenager, last Friday, in an attempt to prevent any racist incidents at the Cheltenham Town v Hereford United match which took place on Monday.
Officers issued a 17-year-old boy from Ross with an £80 fixed penalty notice for a public order offence after he used his Twitter account to attempt to encourage visitors to the game to sing a racist chant. The boy admitted the offence and has apologised.
Commander of the policing operation for the match, Superintendent Rob Priddy, said: "The vast majority of supporters that come to our games at Whaddon Road are able to enjoy themselves in a safe and respectful environment but sadly there is a very small number whose behaviour is unacceptable and is not welcomed by the Football Clubs and genuine supporters."
