Ross 4 v Leominster 4

Ross won on penalties 4-2.

A strong Ross team lined up against Leominster and within minutes had to make changes due to injury. In the time it took to reorganise Leominster took the lead from a free kick. Ross picked up the momentum and the excellent Chris went close. A Matt free kick was headed home by James(R). A sweeping move saw Chris crash a shot against the bar and Jake(C) smashing home the rebound. The Leominster long ball game was a problem in the wind but the back four of Jacob, Matt, Sam and Alex held firm and Kieran(B) decisive in goal. The first half scoring was concluded with a cross from Matt and Jake(W) finished expertly.

The early second half pressure came from Ross and Chris beat three players and crashed the ball against the bar. Ross peppered the goal but totally against the run of play Leominster were awarded a questionable penalty and despite a Kieran(B) save scored from the rebound. Ross continued to press and a sliderule pass from Chris found the skilful James(D) who beat two players and scored to make it 4-2. Game over or so it seemed but Leominster scored from only their third attack and with minutes to go the referee confounded the crowd and awarded a penalty. Kieran saved the spot kick and was fouled the referee blew his whistle to stop play but the ball was scrambled over the line. The referee awarded it, 4-4.

The game went to extra time. Ross penalty takers were superb and a super save from Kieran(B) ensured that Ross won the game.

The team played very well and deserved to win. The man of the match award was shared by Matt for a towering display and Chris who was excellent from start to finish.
