A combination of good fortune and much improved course drainage enabled the Seniors' planned programme of golf to be completed during one of the wettest Augusts of recent times. Neither scheduled annual domestic events nor inter-club fixtures suffered any interference.
The Ena Lightly Shield is a trophy on which Senior golfers at Monmouth are eager to have their names inscribed, hence this mid-August domestic competition attracted a sizeable field. The greensome, foursome, medal format makes this contest rather different from others with partnering players closely collaborating to devise best strategies. After eighteen holes Shun Williams and Dai Harries, Norman Duffield and Mike Bushell, and Trevor Knight and Chesney Britton could only be separated by decimal points with Shun and Dai being awarded the win with 64 points, Norman and Mike second with 64.2 points and Trevor and Chesney third with 64.5 points.
