A BOATFUL of assorted Santas and elves launched out on the Wye for a festive row.

The Christmas Eve paddle by the women of Ross Rowing Club proved a colourful sight on the river as they ’wrapped up’ the rowing year.

On board were Sarah Grace Sykes, Sheron Dean-Lucas, Jan Rosser, Amanda Wood, Sally Hoddell, Di Lancaster, Julie Smith, and Chris Hughes, with Bryn Hughes pulling the cox’s strings.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the club managed to hold its renowned three-day regatta weekend at the end of August, and has raced at several events this autumn, including on the Thames at Henley and Reading, the Severn at Stourport and the Wye at Monmouth.

Club member Morgan Baynham-Williams also steered the winning Leander Club women’s eight at the 182-year-old Henley Royal Regatta in August.

Ross RC hosted the festive pic on its Facebook page and said: "Hopefully, there’s lots of rowing and fun in 2022."
