Last week the Ross Gazette reported residents’ concerns about the condition of the wooden footbridge over the Rudhall Brook in Ross. The wood is rotting away in several places and people are concerned that it could cause falls or serious injuries.
An inspector visited the site as soon as they were aware of the issue and barriers and tape was put up. However by Friday the tape had been torn away and the barriers had been knocked over.
Local resident, Peter Martin posted a message on the Ross-on-Wye Notice Board Facebook page that he had rescued the barriers.
On Monday he reported that a Balfour Beatty crew appeared to be repairing the footpath but it seems that they were strengthening the straps holding the barriers and, as we went to press, the footpath is still closed.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said: “The Rudhall Brook footbridge was temporarily closed whilst work was undertaken to repair the structure. The bridge has been made safe, with permanent repair works due to take place over the coming weeks.”
