Dear Editor,

Oh how sad I am to read in this week’s Ross Gazette that the dear old NatWest Bank is to close.

After being demobbed from the Royal Navy, I secured a job there as junior clerk. The accountant, Eric Littlewood, employed me. He lived in the flat above the bank with his wife and daughter, Yvonne.

Yvonne rose from the BBC typing pool to be one of the BBC’s top producers, noted for producing the annual Royal Variety Performance. Yvonne is still alive and we keep in touch.

I recall the names of many of the clerks, some of whom lost close relatives in the war.

You may disclose my email address to anyone who is interested in my memories of those bygone days.

Still love the dear old Gazette. Wouldn’t miss it for worlds. You do a grand job. Thanks.
