The Highways Agency is planning works in several locations along the A49 both in Herefordshire and Shropshire. Works are due to take place in Peterstow near Ross-on-Wye, through Harewood End, Grafton and further north on sections of the road near Craven Arms, to improve safety for pedestrians and road users.
Existing crossing points on the A49 through Peterstow will be upgraded with 'tactile' paving, which uses raised bumps to alert the visually impaired of their approach to a road crossing. Work will also be undertaken to clear vegetation along existing footpaths and to improve bus stop locations. Daytime off-peak work, from 09.30 to 15.30 hrs, starting almost immediately, between the Yew Tree Inn and The Flann Farm, should be completed by within the month.
At Grafton Lane and Harewood End, between Hereford and Ross, A49 junctions will be the subject of a revised layout, new signage and new road markings to improve visibility and driver awareness of the junctions. Traffic lights and convoy working will be in place whilst the road is being resurfaced.
Work is due to start imminently and should be completed within four weeks.
