A popular art gallery has partnered up with a national environmental charity, River Action UK to launch it’s Save The Wye exhibition.
Canwood Gallery called on artists who live and work around the River Wye to create artwork dedicated to the river.
Their artwork will be sold with a percentage of the proceeds going to River Action UK which is campaigning to save the Wye from irreparable damage.
Despite big efforts from people working on the Save The Wye campaigns and support from celebrities Stephen Fry and Monty Don, a mandatory catchment-wide Nutrient Management Plan needs to be implemented to rescue the River Wye say campaigners.
The money raised through this art exhibition will help to ensure this work goes ahead.
River Action UK states there’s a high level of phosphates in the River Wye suffocating the ecosystem.
Team members at Canwood Gallery are concerned the river is running out of time; they hope this exhibition can raise the funds and awareness needed to rescue it from irreversible environmental damage caused by intensive agricultural practices.
Hannah Dale of Canwood Gallery said: “It’s immensely worrying times for the River Wye and its surrounding communities and businesses, and we need to take action before it’s too late. We have launched our Save the Wye exhibition to firstly raise funds but to secondly raise awareness of the current situation.
All artwork is available to buy until September 18.
this year.
The Gallery is open from 11am to 4pm from Tuesday to Sunday and is located in Hereford, HR1 4NF.
