ON a scorching May afternoon, Ross won the toss and elected to bat. From the outset, Ross were confident, scoring at a brisk rate and keeping the fielders busy on this uncomfortable day. Despite losing a couple of wickets, Ross kept up the attack and solid partnerships were formed right through the innings. The pick of the batting was Lucas Abbott and Dave Long who showed a blend of both style and aggression. In 45 overs, Ross had set a challenging total of 231 for 9 and took to the field with enthusiasm.
In the blistering conditions Ross opted to utilise bowlers in short spells and employed an attacking field. With pressure on the batsmen and runs hard to find Martley's innings started to crumble with a steady succession of wickets. Ross never took the pressure off and eventually the visitors ran out of steam on 104 all out. The pick of the bowling was Andrew Tingle, who took three early wickets, however this was a solid team effort with everyone contributing. Dan Barton was exceptional in the field, and the highlight of the match was the catch in the slips to remove the one Martley batsman offering resistance.
The First XI travelled away to Martley. Martley won the toss and elected to bat reaching 269 for 9 off 50 overs, Ross were unable to gather momentum in the heat and posted 171 for 10 off 38 overs. Ross CC 2nd XI won by 127 runs.
