Lieutenant Commander (SCC) Brian Lampert RNR and Lieutenant Commander (SCC) Susan Lampert RNR have retired from the uniformed staff of the Sea Cadet Corps after completing 88 years of service between them.

And although they are handing over their official duties, Brian is currently working hard at getting the new home for the Sea Cadets in Ross ready, and Sue has been working in the charity’s temporary shop in Gloucester Road to help pay for the move.

Brian joined the Corps in 1957 as a Cadet and has carried out many roles within the Corps in his 55 years of adult service. These include commanding the Forest of Dean Unit, holding Area and District Staff Officer positions, and recently the command of the Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth Unit.

Sue joined the organisation in 1986 when she introduced girls into the Corps within the Forest of Dean Unit, she then later commanded the unit, until she started a completely new unit in Ross-on-Wye in 1999, which she commanded until 2011.

During their service they have seen many young people who were once Cadets, grow into adults and become upright citizens, who enjoy life, within the community.

Brian and Sue told the Ross Gazette that they will continue to support the unit by helping them to raise vital funds whenever they can.
