Searches were called off in Ross-on-Wye on Sunday afternoon after there was no sight of a person in the River Wye, and no report of a missing person in the area. This followed an extensive search by Police and West Midlands Fire & Rescue, the National Police Air Service were also assisting with the search.

A member of the public contacted police just after 10.30am on Sunday, June 11th after seeing an abandoned dog on an island by the River Wye, opposite Wilton Court Hotel, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

The dog’s behaviour on the larger northern island, indicated that its owner had possibly entered the river and a short time later the dog also entered the river.

The dog managed to get out of the river unaided and ran off despite attempts from rescue personnel.

The dog is described as a yellow Labrador Retriever and Airedale Terrier cross, wearing a red collar with a silver disc.

Police searches are ongoing to trace both the owner and the dog.
