Ross Town Council are searching for a town crier. Councillors say that having one could be a great boost for tourism, and would benefit local events both small and large.
The Town Council agreed on Monday, September 9th to spend up to £300 on a costume for the crier. There were concerns from some councillors that £300 would not be sufficient, especially when a traditional bell can cost between £50 and £80, it was said.
The Council are looking for volunteers who would like to take up the role and look to host auditions soon.
Councillor Ed O’Driscoll said it came about after they were approached about VE day announcements, and said it would be a great addition to the town. He said:
“It’s something we can use on holidays and announce these meetings from time to time.
“It could be a draw on a Saturday morning in the town, around the market.”
He even suggested the possibility of having an X-Factor style search for a star.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
