Ross played their last league game on Saturday entertaining the league champions Matson in the sunshine. After a strong physical encounter, Matson had just enough momentum to finish their season on a high and the final score was Matson 24, Ross 15.
Ross acquitted themselves well and did enough throughout the season to ensure they will be playing in the Gloucester Premier rugby next season.
With conditions perfect for running rugby, both sides looked to move the ball from the off. Matson scored first with an unconverted try. However, Ross hit straight back with some wonderful handling by both forwards in the clear to score. Two converted tries either side of half-time put Matson 19-5 ahead. Another try halfway through the second half gave them a convincing 24-5 lead.
Ross was not about to roll over to the champions and they played some great expansive rugby in the last quarter with first prop Wayne Williams crashing over after some great approach work by both Gavin Oates and Adam Clements.
Ross then scored the try of the match. From a lineout of 25 yards out, Ross moved the ball quickly through the hands and fullback, Huw Bellamy, cut inside the defence before gliding over to score. Ross were left to rue missed conversions and penalties that would have resulted in an interesting last ten minutes. However Matson did enough to win and confirm their status as league champions.
The 'Terrys Digital Man of the Match' was Dave Mince for his commitment, before having to leave the field injured after being stamped on the head.
This wraps up Ross's first season in the Gloucester Premier. They emerged with seven victories and have therefore comfortably secured their place in Premier rugby next season.
