Ross 2nds 24 Berry Hill 20

THIS was the first outing for the second team this season and both teams looked a bit rusty early on. However a strong finish by Ross saw them claw back a 12 point deficit early in the second half and in the process get their season off to a winning start. It was Berry Hill who started the stronger, with their forwards driving hard into the Ross defence. They quickly established good field position and eventually their No eight crashed over to score. The try was converted and Ross found themselves 7-0 down after 20 minutes.

However this young Ross team, half of which were under 23 years of age, hit back straight away. Strong tackling in midfield firstly by Karl Pritchard, then Richard Russel, saw Berry Hill lose possession. Scrum half Craig Powell quickly moved the ball to Grant Holdsworth who cut through the Berry Hill defence, before offloading to Richard Russell who scored under the posts. Craig Powell converted and Ross were level 7-7.
