EIGHT ALL-LOCAL seven-man teams played a new one-day football tournament in Ross last Saturday, to entertain an enthusiastic crowd and raise funds for the recently renamed Tudorville & District Community Centre.
The first Walford Timber TDCC Challenge Cup, named after the sponsor who provided the money to buy the trophy, was organised by Tom Cutter and Phil Ravenhill, and took place on the pitches behind Ross Ross Rowing Club.
The winning team, a scratch line-up going by the name United Colours of Hereford and Leeds (pictured, below), battled its way to the final, beating Manc Legends 6-5 on penalties. The main trophy was presented by Councillor Anne Grey. The final's Man of the Match was Billy Russell, the award sponsored by Dawley Estates; the Golden Boot for the tournament's top scorer (five goals), and the award for Player of the Tournament, sponsored by Mavis Russell and Trivett Hicks, went to Eli Wooding (pictured above, second from left).
It is hoped to hold the event every year from now on.
