A new Silent Soldier has been placed at the Thomas Blake Memorial Gardens in Ross-on-Wye, sponsored by the Ross Gazette.

Charlotte Reynolds, General Manager of the Ross Gazette said:?“We are proud to be sponsoring one of the many Silent Soldiers that have been placed around Ross-on-Wye. The Soldiers have such an impact on people when they see them. They are an important reminder of this significant year as we commemorate the anniversary of the end of WWI.”

The local branch of the Royal British Legion have invited local companies, community groups and individuals to get involved in their new ‘Silent Soldier’ campaign by sponsoring and displaying Silent Soldier silhouettes to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, from now to the end of December 2018.

More than 1.1 million British and empire service men and women gave their lives during the First World War so that the future generations could live theirs. The Royal British Legion aims to ensure that everyone has the chance to pay their respects to those who gave so much. The Silent Soldiers will appear across the country as the 100th anniversary approaches.
