Local farmer, Ally Hunter Blair of Weir End Farm, whose interview with the BBC about his version of ‘Combine Karaoke’ has had over 224,000 views is amazed at how far it has spread.
Ally has performed several songs over the years in his combine harvester and tweeted them. He started a couple of years ago with Frozen and he said:?“Its just gone a bit mad, normally it doesn’t go that far.”
As well as a version of Gene Kelly’s ‘Singing in the Rain’ and Miley Cyrus’s ‘Wrecking Ball’, this year’s performances include ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman.
Ally said that singing karaoke in his combine helps to keep his spirits up as he brings in the crops from the fields.
In recent years Ally Hunter Blair has been sharing his videos with the hashtag #CombineKaraoke on social media, and it’s proving quite a hit. Ally said that the comments he has been getting are really positive.
He said that agriculture is in a bit of a rut due to the hot dry weather. Barley has suffered in the drought and yields are down. Ally said that farmers rely on social media to communicate with each other during harvest. Long hours alone can increase a sense of lonelinesses.
Ally said he had been chatting on Twitter for people for about six years and knows them really well although he has never met them.
He said that it is great to chat to someone who is doing exactly the same as you in a different part of the country.
