Ross Rowing Club members are celebrating after the club's fantastic success in 2009 was recognised in the Herefordshire Sports Awards. The club picked up six honours, including the prestigious Club of the Year award.
On the water the club amassed 121 regatta wins, 5 national medals, 15 national indoor medals, and great success for Steve Tuck and Rhiannon Jones on the international stage. There was also recognition of Ross as a well-run club - this was underlined by the securing of planning permission to continue to develop the facilities and the growing membership of over 200. The high level of sponsorship is providing new equipment and land based training facilities in the new fitness centre. The coaching development programme continues to expand with more level 2 coaches coming through and the club will soon have its first British rowing level 3 coach.
The Men's High Performance squad was named Senior Team of the Year. This sqaud is made up of six very special athletes: Phil Davies, Steve Randell, Anthony Dixon Gough, Rolland Robinson and Paul Carpenter, with Morgan Baynham Williams (16) as cox. They have reached the highest possible levels for their age group in the county and are ranked the number one crew in the region. The performance level attained requires incredible levels of work.
The Junior Team of the Year award went to the Ross Junior Academy. Since the Academy was started in 2005 the club has consistently received incredible feedback about the conduct, attitude and performance of the 70 remarkable young people in the group. In four years they have moved from winning a handful of events at local regattas to becoming a power house of competitive rowing in England.
