It was a white out on Sunday, December 11th after heavy snowfall hit Herefordshire.

As Ross residents awoke, they were greeted by a blanket of snow, similar to the depth we had in January 2013.

Many people ventured out to explore the winter wonderland, enjoying traditional activities such as sledging on Tank Meadow.

The Met Office had issued a yellow warning on Thursday for expected snowfall on Friday evening and into the weekend, in particular on Sunday.

During the course of Saturday this weather warning was upgraded to Amber due to the change in position of the weather front.

Light snow started at approximately 1am Sunday morning, and became increasingly heavier as the night progressed.

And although this was greeted with excitement, especially by the younger residents there were issues reported. It was difficult for people to get around and several trees and large branches had come down due to the heavy weight of the snow. A tree had fallen onto cars near Kent Avenue and large branches had fallen from a number of trees on Brampton Road. There were also issues reported on the roads with conditions described as treacherous.

On Monday, 11th and Tuesday, December 12th all schools were closed due to the icy conditions, Wye Valley NHS Trust postponed some planned surgeries that were due to take place and they thanked staff who had battled through difficult conditions to get to work.
