Madam, In the Ross Gazette dated July 15th, it was reported that at a meeting of Ross Town Council, a discussion took place concerning the traffic and parking problems in Alton Road and Alton Street.

The report states that a Herefordshire Council Engineer is looking at a range of options to deal with the situation. Can I suggest that there are two options. One is short term and the other is long term.

Short term - the council to install short lengths of double yellow lines in the area, so that traffic heading up Alton Street has a number of refuges available, in order to avoid traffic coming down Alton Street.

Long term - Herefordshire Council to add the completion of Ross by-pass, from Hildersley to Tudorville, to its list of works for the future, as and when money becomes available.

The would remove a very considerable amount of traffic from the area, to the long term benefit of the town.

Clive Constance, Ross
