This year, for the first time, Weir End Farm at Ross-on-Wye has grown a crop of soya. The beans, which actually resemble peas, will used as animal feed. The soya is GM free and not designed for this climate but farmer, Ally Hunter-Blair told the Ross Gazette that it had been reasonably successful and so he is going to grow it again next year.

He said:?“We did not make our fortune, but we did not lose anything either so we will give it another go next year.” He said that soya is one of the crops of the future and, he thinks that there will be a time when GM crops are grown in this area, but not for many years. He added that while supermarkets want meat fed on non-GM feed there was no market for it in this country.
