PAULA Chambers successfully completed an eight hour sponsored silence, on Saturday, in memory of Ross school girl Lauren Hughes, raising £500 for Asthma UK. Paula had initially intended to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday but her Bi-Polar disorder had become unstable to the point where she was unable to train sufficiently in preparation.
The silence took place from 9am until 5pm in various locations around Ross town centre. Paula said: "I can talk for England! I'm quite well known for that so a lot of people sponsored me and didn't expect to pay because they didn't think I could be quiet for eight hours."
Paula's daughter was friends with Lauren, who died of complications following an asthma attack on May 1st, and she obtained the permission of Lauren's family before running the event.
Paula said: "I wanted to do something for Lauren and for a good charity. We collected £204.04 in the tins around town, with the spot next to the trolley park being particularly lucrative. We managed to make the rest of the money up to £500.
"I'd like to thank to all those who supported and donated, and particularly John Morral who was my voice throughout the day, ensuring I didn't speak."
