Following unseasonable warmth, Storm Callum, the third storm of the 2018/2019 season, will bring flooding and damaging winds to much of the United Kingdom on Friday, October 12th and into Saturday.
The Met Office has warned that an intense area of low-pressure, which will pass Northern England and Scotland during Friday, October 12th which will bring severe gales to Nothern Western parts of the UK.
The main impacts for the UK will be caused by heavy rain across some western areas on Friday, October 12th and Saturday, October 13th. Yellow and Amber Met Office Weather Warnings for wind and rain are in force for Friday and Saturday.
Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders, said “The heavy rainfall expected over Friday and Saturday could well heighten the potential for flooding.”
A Yellow Rain Warning is in place from 5am Friday to 12am on Sunday for heavy, slow moving, rain that will affect Cumbria and parts of North West England and Wales.
The Met Office warn that areas of high ground could see over 60mm of rain in 12 hours with some exposed locations seeing as much as 100mm by the end of the day. There is the potential for flooding in these areas.
It is expected that heavy rainfall and strong winds will affect the River Wye and areas of Herefordshire. Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said "Some very large rainfall totals appearing on forecast models for Friday into Saturday for parts of Wales. We’ll be monitoring closely for possible impacts on the Severn and Wye."
