Sunny spells in Ross-on-Wye on Thursday, 7th February suggested that Spring may be well on its way. Daffodils and snowdrops may be appearing, but wind and rain, the effects of Storm Erik, indicate that the wintry weather may persist a while longer.

Storm Erik is set to continue bringing strong gusts and heavy rain to the UK, with the weekend in Ross-on-Wye getting off to a wet and windy start.

The Met Office have now issued a Yellow Warning for the West Midlands, and also for Wales. A Met Office spokesperson said that in these areas ’a spell of strong winds will move from west to east through Saturday, February 9th, bringing potential travel disruption’.

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and some short term loss of power is also possible.

The Met Office have said that strong winds will continue through this evening, Friday, February 8th, blowing through occasional blustery showers. The showers will be heavy with a risk of hail.
